Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI)

Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) may present in various forms ranging from mild variations of consciousness to unpardonable comatose state or death. It really is something not to be taken lightly.

This condition continues to plague millions of people around the world every year. Contact athletes are especially prone to TBIs!

Fortunately, deaths due to TBI have decreased over the past decade partly due to increased awareness, careful management of symptoms and guidelines, and improvement in treatment regimens. However, some Traumatic brain injuries are still unreported and never reach medication attention.

Surprisingly, highest rates of TBI tend to be in very young age-groups (0-4) as well as in teenagers and young adults (15-24). Another peak in incidence is found in the elderly population.

 2 leading causes of TBI:

1) Falls

2) Motor Vehicle accidents.

Untreated, some TBI can lead to significant disabilities and sometimes death.

Please consult a health care professional if you experience dizziness, headaches, confusion, memory lapses or more after a hit to the head.
