Sid Donarski. After physiotherapy, the journey back to competing
Back to the court in Florida
Traveling to Florida was a step in the right direction since my foot injury 5 months ago. I was finally ready to tackle the court and I felt that my body was in the right condition to start testing the machine. My first practice back on court after a long period of break was like learning a childhood language all over again. I was discombobulated, but I felt right at home. The first day of practice was spent on court with my coach Pascal Collard (picture), who trained names such as Younès El Aynaoui (former #12 in the world), Justin Henin (former #1 in the world & Grand Slam winner). The first few days were mostly focusing on gaining back some of that lost rhythm and muscle memory. Few days later, we started incorporating drills with a bit of lateral movement and finally, after a week on court I was confident in my ability to compete on the court again.
Throughout my come back, it was imperative for me to keep maintaining my rehab exercises. I was also in constant contact with Anthony Truong (my physiotherapist) and the team of experts at Physio Summum who helped me with a smooth transition back on court. The key to success for me now is to stay healthy and that means listening my body and not overloading it with excessive training. Gradual but steady improvement is the way to go, no matter if you are a pro athlete like me or someone suffering form a minor work related injury. The journey remains the same.
